As both your local Member of Parliament, and the Government’s Rural Connectivity Champion, I am very keen to hear about your experiences with your broadband on Walney Island. Whether you run a business, work, learn, get your entertainment, browse, or shop online, a fast and reliable internet connection is now a necessity.

It has long been a frustration to me that Walney Island, home to over 10,000 people, only has full-fibre broadband available at Biggar Village and at one other housing development.

I have recently been speaking to Openreach and other providers about this, and am keen to work with the community to extend the offer of full-fibre broadband to everyone who wants it. Fibre broadband is over 1,000 times faster than broadband which uses older copper wires, meaning more stable connections, better speeds, and the ability for familes and businesses to use the internet more reliably.

I’d like to hear from you about how your broadband performs, if you are happy with your deal, and if you would consider the shift to an alternate provider if they offer full fibre. I can then make the case to providers to prioritise roll-out of gigabit fibre to homes across the island.
